Meetings from 2019-2020

August 13, 2019 - Membership Rally Meeting Notes and Links

In the Cub Breakout we discussed resources from the national website that will help you with your recruiting efforts.

Your starting point is the Marketing and Membership Hub.

From there you can find the Pack and Den Recruiting page and the Sign-up Night Playbook.  The playbook has great information about running your pack sign-up night.

Some more good recruiting resources come from the Cub Scout program pages. The Welcome! New Cub Scout Family brochure would make a great handout or addition to a New Family packet. Also, take a look at the Den Meeting Resources for some information you might want to give to a prospective new leader. Each rank topic has a description of that leader's job. One example is the Welcome! New Lion or Tiger Den Leader

There are also two key people that can make your pack a more inviting place. They are the Pack Trainer, who serves as a mentor for new leaders, and the New Member Coordinator, who makes new families welcome in your pack and guides them through thier joining process. The Pack Trainer's job is described in the Cub Scout Leader Book. And you can find out more about the the New Member Coordinator here.

Tom Gilbert of the Council's Venturing Officer's Association visited our main meeting to give us a quick overview of the Venturing program and to tell us about the VOA's next event:

CATACLYSM!

The fate of the world hangs in the balance and it's up to you and your team to save it.

Venturers and Scouts aged 14 will form 'clans' and compete in team-building and leadership challenges to not only lead the wasteland, but wrest the fate of civilization from the jaws of certain doom!

Join the Garden State Council Venturing Officers Association (VOA) on March 30th at Roosevelt Scout Reservation for CATACLYSM!: a day of competitive team-building challenges, C.O.P.E, axe throwing, archery, and rifle shooting!

In the Cub Leader session we talked about Arbor Day on April 26, 2019. Everything you need to plan your Pack's Arbor Day celebration can be found at the Arbor Day Foundation, incuding the coloring pages and banners we had at the meeting. We also covered the Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award and the Cub Scout World Conservation Award. You can download copies of the song, Trees and our Run-ons & Cheer.

Also, Thank You for your suggestions for future meeting topics. We hope we can continue to present information and ideas at Roundtable that you can take back to your Packs and make your program better.

New upload (9/11/15) - Handout from the White Horse Roundtable - Boy Scout Breakout Session now available to download and print at the bottom of this page!

Meeting theme was STEM, and notes include a dozen groups in the area that offer STEM and Science related programs, a list of some ways local Troops have already used STEM in their program, an idea for a three week patrol-method STEM competition with patrols designing mouse-trap cars, and notes of what was shared and discussed at the new open forum part of the break-out, where Troop leaders can share ideas and ask questions about how Troops and Crews handle different situations.  Some of the topics that came up this month included sharing some great trip ideas, an idea for inter-council archery and rifle shooting team competitions run via the web, and how different troops handle cell phones with their Scouts.

This paper (which will be out monthly) is ideal to hand to your Patrol Leader Council, as it has lists of ideas and resources that they can use in their programs, immediately or in the future.  Helpful for Scoutmasters and other leaders looking to shake things up, or simply for more ideas!  The best part is, everything was generated by the 15 leaders who attended the meeting, nearly all of them Troop leaders just like you.

Miss the meeting?  Come out to the next one October 13th!  Bring your ideas, experiences, questions, concerns, discussion topics, and your enthusiasm!  The more folks, the merrier!
